Materials That You Will Need For It:
To make a DIY rug from scratch, you will need some materials and these are: You will need a multi-use netting, cotton piping, small rubber bands, and scissors. You can get the cotton piping in many thicknesses. It can be from one-fourth inch to one inch. Any cotton piping thickness will work to make the rugs. But if you choose a thick pipe, your DIY process will be faster.
How To Make The DIY Rug:
Figure out the length that you want your rug to be. After you have figured out the roll rugs length, then you can roll out the netting length that you need.
Then start cutting the cotton piping into pieces. These should be about four inches long each. You will want them to be of the same length. So that upon completion, the rugs will look relatively even along with some variations so that you will have a textured feel that will make it seem that it is handmade.
The next step is weaving. You have to twist the cotton pieces that you have cut in between the netting grid. Then pull the cotton pieces upwards and tie them together using a rubber band. When the pieces are secured, then take out the fluffy pieces, that look like pom-poms.
Repeat the same steps till you have covered the netting pieces fully.
Next, arrange the pieces in a single unit. This step is only applicable if you are making a large runner. Skip this step if you are making a small rug.
Repeat this process along with the edge’s pieces so that they are joined together and completed.
